Cascara
Rhamnus purshiana. This North American shrub is a well known laxative and colon cleanser that has been widely used by physicians as well as native peoples. Many commercial preparations contain the cured bark of Cascara sagrada. Famous for “next morning” results. As with all laxatives, drink plenty of water with this herb. May cause griping at high dosage; add ginger tea or tincture if this happens.
Ingredients: Dry, wild, aged Cascara sagrada bark, distilled water, and certified organic cane alcohol.
Cautions: Not to be taken during pregnancy or nursing. Do not exceed recommended dose or take long term. Do not use when abdominal pain or diarrhea is present.
Suggested Use: Take 1 to 2 teaspoons in liquid, at night. Sweeten if desired. Start with lower dose, then increase if necessary. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.
