Slippery Elm Bark

Ulmus rubra. This native American tree bark has long been used for its mucilaginous properties by indigenous people and herbalists. It is nutritive, soothing and softening to tissues. Used by opera singers and speakers for mouth and throat inflammation. Absorbs toxins and soothes the whole digestive tract. Slippery Elm is an amphoteric herb, normalizing opposite conditions, i.e. constipation and diarrhea. Our wildlife rehabilitation center mixes this (as a powder) with all our orphaned mammal formulas. An herb in the Essiac Formula. May mediate certain drug therapies that cause acidity but may also slow their intake. An ingredient in our Slippery Elm Ginger Tincture, and Asessiac formula. This tree is at-risk because of Dutch Elm disease. We have planted several trees yet they are still too young to harvest.
